I recently inherited an 88 Suncrest with a Chevy 454. It was in pretty sad shape, but after a dozen weekends, it's looking like it's ready to travel. After finishing an engine tune-up, I noticed that the engine air intake is pitiful. When I blip the throttle, the filter housing nearly implodes. There seems to be lots of room to bring fresh air to the carb, but before I start cutting, I was wondering if anyone else has already played around with air intake, and had some good ideas to share.
Don't you have the standard tall (6") air cleaner with the fire carbon retarder inside, I cannot see your air filter housing bending inwards since it's metal....
The/your air snout should be about 9" long and you can add on some dryer hose and suck in some much needed cold air......
