I Hope the picture shows, but its that door bell !!!. After a long hunt I found it - in bits!

Mind you, putting in the middle of the couch locker is asking for trouble.  Needless to say it doesn't work, but there is power there. The trouble is .... here in "Li''"le ol' England", I cant find a replacement.

I have been told it is a Wall Mart Special.

Can any one help a hapless English chap get the ringing going again????

If you can get me a model number I'll buy one at WalMart and send it to you.

That is very kind - thank you.

I will endeavour to squeeze my head in and see if there are any markings.

I didn't see anything last time I looked but there again I was just pleased that after all the searching - I found it.
It would appear that there is a permanent 12VDC power supply and the bell push closes the trigger circuit. It is 12volt which is the problem here - they are all 230VAC.

I know one thing... the replacement will be fitted somewhere sensible!

    Steven,
I pulled the bell this afternoon, well it was pouring with rain so outside work was a no-no!

Any way I am now confused, or silly.....

The bell is made by Friedland (in the UK!!) but it looks like it has been modified, possibly for Airstream? that seems a bit extreme.

The bell had the facilities for four 1.5volt batteries. One space for these has been taken by a fuse (BUSS 3833 1 imprinted on the Bakerlite base) and the other space has a 7.6 ohm resistor connected to the terminals.

The wiring is.... 12volts (Violet colour wire) goes to the fuse, the other side of the fuse goes to the bell push (White/Black wire) this is in turn is returned to the coil terminal of the bell (Again white/black). The other side of the 12volts (White wire) goes to what looks like a blind terminal of the coil, which has the resistor wired, from that to another terminal of the bell coil. So the resistor is in series with the power supply

I can only assume that the resistor has a value to reduce the voltage to the bell to somewhere near 6volts. The only bells I find here are 8volts! or mains (230VAC). The bell has only one round sticker on the inside displaying A2 and the makers name (made in England by V & E Friedland Ltd. for General electric Co. Warwick RI 02886).

Now perhaps I am a little dense here, but it looks like this may be a standard bell of 6volts with the resitor added so it can be used on 12volts?

    What do you think?

    Chuck,
thats a lot about a doorbell :). I'm pretty sure more domestic (US) doorbells are low voltage (12V). The next time I'm at Lowes or Home Depot I'll check. I would think you could just connect any new doorbell.

Has anyone else replaced/upgraded their doorbell?
