I purchased a 93 Damon on a p30 chassis. It has had a earlier(1988) engine installed. This makes the origional oil lines useless. I have had the oil cooler cleaned (its part of the a/c condenser) but have been told they don't clean up well and should buy a new one. I have been looking at a aftermarket cooler made by Earl's performance. It would run about $250 in parts, and I would install. Any suggestions on aftermarket oil coolers? Thanks.

hey i have the same deal but an 88 460 and was at car quest today lookin thru theirs..in that i know nothing about them but ahve asked on other sites..so far i have found that i can get a universal BM and use the oil filter adapter that is already on mine..it seems that there may have been one mounted in front of the radiator at one time but the lines are plugged..lots to consider.size..??best place is in front of radiator ??? only 3/4" thick 7 1/2" h 15" ... or a unit with fan also and the oil filter adapter..$200...???i don't have a tanny fluid cooler except for thru the radiator and am wondering what is the best for that..?? i have heard some good things about car quest and they have a couple thousadn stores the man said nation wide..BM was on the web..i have a 88 mallard 27' c..ford 460 74k and no exhaust manifold problems yet and would like to keep it that way so i am also looking for some more air on the engine compartment..a friend talked of putting in a marine fan used to get rid of gas fumes before starting..with a lighted switch ..maybe an elder will jump in here and give us new guys a lesson or two...good luck and let me know what you come up with..

IMHO a trans cooler is one of the first things I would put on. It will not only lower trans temp but will also allow the engine to run cooler by not having the radiator do all the cooling. Automatic transmissions are probably the most abused piece of machinery on the American roads. Most people never bother to change the filter until it is to late. They will change oil and filter on the engine every 3000 miles and never even think about the transmission. I Have both transmission and engine oil coolers mounted in front of the radiator with no problems.

thanks are yours original ??? do they have fans in front of them also or do they rely on the engine fan...i agree with you thought ..from what i have heard about exhaust manifold problems on both chevy and ford..

Hi Guys I purchased a cooling unit from Summitracing.com It came with a powerful fan already mounted. The price was around $150.00. It'll work for engine or trans. I have been using one for my drag car & do not need any other cooler. The other is in a free flow area away from the radiator as well as ducted for forced fresh air. Then I removed both the oil & trans lines from the radiator. Entirely isolating the radiator. Another little device slips over the oil filter that has cooling fins to pull off excess heat. Also try using the two quart filter for GM, it has no operational fifteen pound bypass like all the others do. this means ALL the oil gets filtered not just anything below fifteen pounds. These are HD filters & all you do is keep in mind to watch for your pressure to drop ten pounds, Thats when you change the filter or every three thousand miles.
