You will need around 1/4 of fuel in your main tank for the genny to pick up fuel....

The fuel lines over the years break down and develope air leaks and suck air instead of fuel...

I suspect you have a 70-80 gallon fuel tank so it's time to gas up...Another great thing to do is pour in 1 pint of "Sea-foam" for every 20 gallons of fuel in your tank...This will clean both engine carb and genny carb extremely well and eliminate potential problems..

    Switch water over from what?
Your either running from the internal tank/s or from the external source and you will need a decent water regulator to keep the pressure at and around 45 PSI..
