we recently purchased a 1986 Fleetwood Pace Arrow on a P30 with 454 and HD400 turbo tranny.  the previous owner ordered new front air springs.  they put one in, but not the other.  the one remaining has a 3" slit in the body.

the instructions show to deflate, curl and tie with string, and with a few other steps, to insert thru the bottom plate.  sounds simple enough, but........

is there anything we should be aware of before we undertake this project?  dos?  don'ts?  be carefuls?

we are very handy and are able to work our way thru about anything but advice from those that have been there before is ALWAYS a good thing!

we got our profile updated with a few pics of our new baby.  any thoughts for things to check, watch out for would be welcomed.

I've done this job on mine and it's not as bad as you think. Another member here gave me some advice on getting out the old bags by cutting them in a spiral through the spring with a sharp steak knife. It made getting the old stiff rubber bag out through the small hole in the bottom of the lower control arm much easier.

I aso used band clamps instead of string to compress the bag to get it into the hole. Oh - and lots and lots of dishsoap to lube it all up nicely. Lastly I partially inflated the bag in place using a bicycle pump enough to move it around and "seat" it in side the spring.

All in all it took about an hour per side. Not bad at all. Be sure to check your owner's manual on pressure for the bags. I think AirLift recommends 95 psi but on my Airstream is was supposed to be 55 psi - much better ride.

the string and use of soap and to male sure there are no burrs around the hole to snag the new bag was about all the instructions had to say. our owners manual says 50-55 lbs for the front but i have seen some notes in the paperwork from previous owners that i beleive had diferent numbers.

thanks for reply! doesn't sound so bad after all!
