Obviously, we have an older motorhome - otherwise I probably wouldn't be here.  Our television is old and needing replacement, if for no other reason than the change to digital broadcasting that is looming in the near future.  My delima is that my current tv runs on 12 volts, and there is no 110VAC outlet anywhere near the location of the existing TV.  If there were I might consider just using a converter box next year.

Is anyone aware of a TV manufacturer that is providing 12volt DC tvs for the RV industry?

Another question; I have found a few tvs at WalMart and like retailers, that have a power converter built into the power cord, providing a 12VDC output.  My febal mind makes me think that such TVs could be connected to the 12volt motorhome system.   But what I'm wondering is that MH power is generally in the 13.2 - 13.4 volt range and sometimes as high as 14.2VDC.  Do you think that would be a problem for these TVs?

A quick Google of " 12v tv" tells me theat you should be living in the U.K. as they have loads of them. But it may cost too much to move so I would suggest buying an LCD tv and getting a small inverter such as found here: http://www.dcacpowerinverters.com/1...rters.html

That way if you upgrade or want another TV in the  house when not rving, there it is.

To quote GordN 'it may cost too much to move" is an understatement. Wait 10 years for the currency markets to swing back round before moving out the states. In the meantime buy yourself a decent power inverter. If you have the money, get one that produces a pure sine wave instead of a modified one so that your sensitive unit gets what it's designed to receive

Magnavox makes a great LCD TV that works on 12v. The units come with the converter in the cord. I just went to RadioShack and got their cigerette plug and adapter kit. It is then just a matter of selecting the right adapter.

We have two of these TV's in our Airstream 345. The down side is that the ones we have are NOT digital. We will have to get a converter box for when we use the roof antenna. Most of the time we use the portable satalite dish with our Direct TV.

I'm sure that they make the same type of unit with the digital tuner.

I actually have also wondered at the power cords with built in 120AC-to-low voltage DC converters. I'm sure someone out there in the interwebs has tried to just splice a cord onto a car battery (note: actually I found a thread of someone wanting to do this with a laptop. yes, don't try this at home.)

I have a Panasonic "Roadshow" 9" TV/VCR combo - it's great on AC and it has a DC plug, but no DC cord. I've hunted around at Radio Shack and have come up with nothing. Looking at wikipedia I think it's Power Mini-DIN or Power DIN (3 pin). If anyone has any of these lying around....

FYI -- Panasonic still makes Roadshow, only now with built in DVD.

I had a LCD Sanyo TV in the guest room at home that had a AC converter that stated it had output of 14.4 volts, DC.    Thinking this thru I realized that my solor control panel on the motorhome generally shows my batts to be around 13.3 volts.  Simple mat says this is within 8 percent of the required 14.4VDC so I installed it in The MH.  Works fine.

Most all of the larger truck stops( Flying J,TA,Petro ) all carry 12 volt televisions. Our trucks do not have inverters from the factory we must add them so a lot of 12 things are available there.
